Dental Emergency
When a dental emergency strikes, fast action can make all the difference. At Deller Smiles Dental Care & Orthodontics, we’re committed to providing prompt, compassionate emergency dental care to relieve pain, protect your oral health, and get you smiling again.
If you’re in pain or have experienced a dental injury, call us right away. We will do everything possible to see you the same day during business hours, and when possible, we offer after-hours support for patients of record.
What to Expect During Your Emergency Visit?
During your emergency appointment, our team will:
- Perform a thorough evaluation of the affected area
- Take the necessary X-rays to assess the issue fully
- Diagnose the cause of your pain or injury
- Provide immediate pain relief and, if needed, a temporary solution until a full treatment can be scheduled
Our goal is to get you out of pain quickly and create a plan to fully resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
You should contact us right away if you experience any of the following:
- Severe toothache or persistent pain
- Knocked-out or partially dislodged tooth
- Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
- Lost crown, filling, or restoration
- Swelling of the gums, face, or jaw
- Abscess or signs of infection (such as fever or a pimple on the gums)
- Bleeding that doesn’t stop after 10 minutes of pressure
Even if you’re unsure whether your situation is an emergency, it’s always better to call. Delaying care can make problems more complex and costly to fix later.
What to Do Before You Arrive?
While waiting to see our dentists, here are a few steps you can take to protect your teeth and minimize discomfort:
- Knocked-out tooth: Keep it moist. Place it gently back in the socket if possible, or store it in milk. Avoid touching the root.
- Severe pain: Rinse gently with warm water and use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Do not apply aspirin directly to the tooth or gums.
- Lost filling or crown: Keep the area clean. You can use dental wax or temporary dental cement from a pharmacy to protect the tooth until your appointment.
- Swelling: Use a cold compress and call us immediately — this can indicate an infection that requires urgent attention.
After-Hours Emergency Care
If you are a patient of record experiencing a dental emergency outside of normal business hours, call our office and follow the voicemail prompts to reach the on-call dentist. We’ll guide you through the next steps and determine if you need to be seen right away.
Dental emergencies can happen at any time — don’t wait to get the care you need. Call our office, and our experienced team will help you protect your smile and relieve your pain as quickly as possible.
